English Major Course Level 1 Course Description
English Major Course Level 1
In this course, students will start building the English language together. This will be achieved through a specific focus on speaking and listening, reading, phonics, vocabulary, grammar, and application activities. Learning will be contextualized in age-appropriate topics, including greetings, counting numbers, colors and shapes, animals, food we eat, and the body.
The English Major Course Level 1 lessons provide a strong foundation of alphabet letters and their sounds, introducing students to words starting with these letters and encouraging students to blend these sounds in words. Students will practice through a combination of call and response, reading activities, action words, and reading rhymes. In addition, students will be introduced to a new sight word, also known as a high frequency word, in each lesson. Sight word phrases provide an opportunity for students to read these focus words in context.
In grammar, students will be introduced short sentences like “I can”, using action verbs, using a pronoun, first- and second-person conjugation and articles before nouns among others.
In Level 1, students will get opportunities for ‘show and tell’ which will support learners’ progress and development of English vocabulary in a fun setting. Singing the alphabet songs and chanting the letters in various ways will sure help the students be off to a great start fully immersing them in the language.
